Beth Chatto

Beth Chatto (1923-2018) was the most influential British plantswoman of the past hundred years. She was the inspiration behind the ‘right plant, right place’ ethos that lies at the heart of modern gardening. She also wrote some of the best-loved gardening books of the twentieth century, among them The Dry GardenThe Damp Garden, and Beth Chatto’s Gravel Garden. She was created OBE in 2002 and also held the Royal Horticultural Society’s Victoria Medal of Honour.
